report from denver for you in just 12 minutes. now to our continuing coverage of the oakland a's story. this afternoon the plot got even more improbable. on the final game of the regular season in front of a packed coliseum crowd, the a's quenched the american league west after never having once led the division all year. there was quite a celebration this afternoon. fred. >> absolutely, gasia. the second showering this week as a matter of fact. you know, june 30th, the oakland a's trailed texas by 13 games in the standing and since then they went on a 57 to 26 tear. this is the best record in major league baseball since june 30th and their mo is usually come back victories just like today. they trailed texas 5 to 1 in the fourth inning when the a's put ten batters up to the plate. they scored six runs on four

information, and what we've been told so far is that a san mateo county transit authority officer fired his weapon while the train was in san jose. we've also been told that one person was wounded and has been taken away. caltrain has stopped northbound service in the area not far from the station. new at 7:00, the search for the person or persons throwing objects at vehicles from an overpass above highway 4 in contra costa county. live in antioch tells us three vehicles have been hit here and one person was injured. >> investigators say even a small rock like this can do a lot of damage and all of the vehicles including an ambulance were hit here near the g street overpass. i tracked down the ambulance company and got photos of the damage. >> on monday about 9:00 p.m. an amr ambulance was heading east on highway 4 passing under the g3 overpass when an object came

crashing into the windshield shattering the fwlasz in front of the driveway. >> they didn't see anything out on the roadway, anybody in front of them. the way it was de scribed is they felt like the impact came from above from the overcrossing area. >> the emt and paramedic inside were not injured but it worried them and their manager. >> we're very concerned about the safety of the public who utilize that area. >> two other vehicles were hit by objects in the same spot last week. police say about 9:45 thursday night an object smashed through the windshield of a car hitting a 49-year-old brentwood man in the arm. police say the driver thought he'd been shot and drove to a hospital. later that night police say someone threw an object and shattered the windshield of a car driven by a 53-year-old woman from discovery bay. the chp say the drivers are lucky the objects didn't cause them to crash. >> it can cause vehicles to swerve out of control because they see the object coming. >> investigators are looking for witnesses and hope to catch whoever is doing this before someone ends up in an accident or fatally injured.

>> it's not a game. it's something we take very seriously and something we actively investigate. >> if you have any information you're asked to call antioch police or 911 and anyone spotted deliberately throwing objects at cars could face felony charges. ktvu channel 2 news. a federal judge declared a mistrial today in the cocaine fraud case against former san francisco police crime lab technician. 62-year-old deborah madden seen here in court is accused of taking cocaine from the police lab back in 2009. told reporters they could not reach a unanimous verdict. madden was accused of taking the cocaine by fraud or deception led to hundreds of cases being thrown out. a hearing is set next week to discuss a possible retrial. a new report out today by the federal monitor of the oakland police department criticized that opd has handled nine officer-involved shootings. it comes as a motion filed tomorrow to request a federal take over of the department. monitors report the use of force in some of the officer-involved

shootings. a physical rights attorney who is cowriting the motion says the department has to change. >> i've done police shootings in many cities, but the problems with oakland are systemic and unique. >> a hearing is set for december. the city is expected to fight the request. opd's active members of the community help fight crime. it's called mick field and it allows people to send tips through a text message. the oakland police web site has the number to text your tips. hot weather and fire danger prompted authorities to close san jose's park for the second day in a row. rangers first close it had park yesterday when the temperatures there hit 99 degrees. as for tomorrow the park will reopen with restrictions, no fires, no barbecues and should be some relief on the way. at 7:23 our meteorologist bill martin will lay out the timeline and how much cooler it might get. five people escaped unharmed this afternoon after a san jose

off to school. the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting a lot longer. 28 degrees cooler. that's where the fog came from. it came up from the south sort of southerly surge and that's why temperatures in the next couple of days are going to be trending down. 80s, 90s, 100s. we'll get you some low 80s in some hot spots but this low pressure center is the culprit. we're going to be living in this range the next couple of days except the coast we'll be living in the 50s because the fog is going to be a constant player. the forecast model lines up the fog tomorrow morning right there. more than that. i think little misty again be more fog along the beach then by the afternoon temperatures that's the high so those are 70s, those going all the way up so that cool moist air infiltrated the delta or will infiltrate the delta. temperatures in sacramento 70s. 83 in brentwood, 82 in livermore
